I cannot sleep tonight. This weird little electronic sounding noise woke me up. After hearing it several more times and deciding that it wasn't aliens beaming down on the front lawn, I came to realize that it was happening every 5 minutes...exactly. Brad had brought home a radio from work and had it plugged in to charge and after an hour of "What the heck IS that?", I unplugged the radio and TA-DA, no more annoying little noise! BUT.... now I am wide awake. I have had a couple of nights like this (as I usually do during the summer when I am staying up later and sleeping later) where I have found myself unable to fall asleep and thinking how nice it would be to get up and read or get on the computer without interruptions for a bit. Of course, I end up staying up all night and then being in dire need of a nap the next day!
So, I have been fishing a lot lately. Sam has discovered that fishing is in his blood and he has been relentless in his demands to go to Paw's lake or to go down to our fishing pond here at home. Mom & Dad gave him a set of carp rod & reels for his birthday and that is all he EVER asks to do. I am getting SO tired of fishing (I like it just fine in moderation, mind you) but it is all he thinks of.
I guess I should be glad that my kids aren't in that elevision rut that so many kids his age fall into. Our TV is almost NEVER on. We usually watch it for just a few minutes while we wait on everyone to get up in the morning, sometimes we watch an episode of Spongebob during lunch, and I always DVR The Daily Show, although I usually don't get to watch them until I sit down with Brad on Sunday night after the kids are in bed. I watch LOST religiously when there are new episodes and we will occasionally rent a movie. But that's it. Our days consist of playing outside with the doggies, swimming at grandmomma's, fishing (of course), playing in their rooms & a moment or two of playing a video game here and there. Most of the time, my scatterbrained children cannot find their chargers or their games or both and end up watching whomever happens to be lucky enough to have everything they need to actually play! So the video games don't happen often!
Brad is hung up on buying a boat. A deck boat or a pontoon boat, preferrably. He thinks it would be nice to have, fun for the family, etc. I think the same thing, along with how nice it would be to relax on a boat and get a nice tan while reading a book... but then who am I kidding??? That would never happen!!! If we had a boat, it would be me getting everything ready to take with us, and then chasing the kids around while we were on the water. It would be Sam fishing & fishing & fishing... me worrying about him casting out his line with his sister's ear on the end of it, stinky fish bait everywhere, Lily whining about being bored and wanting to sit on my lap. It could be nice but I'm just not sure it would be... maybe I am just being that eternal pessimist that I always mange to be! Not saying I wouldn't want a boat... just weighing the pros and cons in my mind. And of course, I have been dealing with my children 24/7 for the past month and a half so I am on the "my children are driving me crazy" portion of my summer. That does tend to warp one's sense of what is and what is not a good idea!
So, I will probably post this on my blog and then get on Facebook for a while before grabbing an hour or so of sleep before the kids get up. I am absolutely addicted to Facebook. Sad, I know. But it is SO much fun to get to talk to people you normally wouldn't have the chance to talk to on a daily basis. My high school gang was so close but we just got so busy with life and lost touch but now so many of us have reconnected and keep up with each other through Facebook. It is just a really neat thing. Plus, I have a lot of work friends and family. Just fun. That's all for now.
