This was super long week. Brad was out of town all week and I am exhausted from doing all the running by myself. With basketball practice and dance class and church and a doctor's and dentist's appointment, plus a visit to teach my homebound student, I don't feel like I have stopped since he left on Monday morning. I'm pooped! Just when I thought I wasn't going to make it to Friday, Brad srprised me by returning home a day early! Never been so glad to see him!
I had to take Sam to his very first orthodontist's appointment on Thursday. He was so nervous. For those of you who don't know, Sam has sucked the middle and ring finger on his right hand since he was about three months old. We bribed him a few months back with money and he actually stopped sucking them during the day. Now he only sucks them at night, which is a HUGE improvement from before. Still, he knew what the orthodontist was going to tell him. I think it kind of made it like a reality for him because he started to cry as soon as we walked out fo the office. He doesn't think he will be able to stop sucking his fingers. He is afraid he will not be able to go to sleep. Poor kid. He's really worried. The orthodontist suggested we buy a whole bunch of medical tape and tape his fingers each night with a wad of tape as big as a golfball so that he will not physically be able to put them in his mouth. I have found a finger guard online that I may order that straps on over your fingers and is attached to your wrist so you can't take it off easily. We know that there is the option of using that bad tasting stuff you paint on your fingers, but I really would rather not use that. Orthodontist said we could put in an appliance with a rake to make him stop sucking them, but that would be as a last resort. I would love to hear any suggestions anyone might have. He is sleeping on the couch right now with his fingers all bound with gauze and electrical tape (yeah, I haven't been to the store yet!). It took almost two hours longer than it usually does for him to go to sleep but he did. I am really hopeful that it won't be too bad.
So very glad it is Friday. Tomorrow I am going to clean my house and scrapbook a while.

Moods & boys vs. girls...
Isn't it funny how your mood changes for no apparent reason? All weekend long I was so crabby and lifeless. I had a cold, felt miserable, & wanted to do nothing but sleep. Yesterday I was just kind of blah. Just going through the motions of getting up, going to work, coming home, going to practices, getting ready for the next day so I could do it all over again. And then today, out of the blue, I am feeling really good. Happy, even! Nothing changed. Stayed up too late reading last night, so I expected to be extra tired and crabby. But lo and behold, it seems to be the total opposite! I had to stay after school this afternoon, then to a doctor's appointment, then to dance, then home to eat and get the kids ready for bed. All of this I did with a smile on my face! I even had the energy to fold the three loads of clothes in baskets on top of the washing machine! Wow! Whatever it is, keep it coming!
I had to take Lily shopping this weekend to buy her some pants. Poor child. She had reached the point where every time she bent over she was showing some crack, her pants had gotten so small. Both my kids have gone through these massive growth spurts recently and I just can't believe how they've grown. It makes me feel old! Anyway, she got this pair of jeans with purple froo-froo all over them and this velvety looking purple shirt to match. When she got up this morning she declared it to be "Purple Day" and insisted that I find something in my closet befitting this special day so that we could "match". She even wore socks with purple trim, and purple hair stuff. She wanted to paint her fingernails purple, too, but there just wasn't time before we had to leave for school. Darn.
Sam, on the other hand, could care less about his wardrobe. We went to church the other night and he had put on a sleeveless blue shirt that was too small for him this past summer over the top of a long sleeved white shirt with a black stripe down the sleeve. He covered it up with his coat and I didn't see how ridiculous he looked until we got to church. I tried not to laugh, but it was just too funny. I got home the other day and instead of putting on a coat to keep warm while outside, he had put on FOUR shirts, one on top of the other! He hates to wear a coat. I had to buy him some new shoes because he had walked on the back of his other shoes until they had holes in them. He had refused to lace his shoes up like they were meant to be and he tied them really loose so he could just slide them on and off without any effort. So now that he has a new pair of shoes, he says they hurt his feet... but I know it is the fact that his shoes actually fit properly and have to be tied that bothers him. Good grief... boys and girls are totally different!

Another winter, another nasty cold & my thoughts on Lost...
I stayed home from work today because I have a nasty cold. It is inevitable that I should get at least one each winter since I work around so many germs!!! I can handle the snot and congestion, but I seem to always get a really bad cough with every cold I get, which drives me batty. It often turns into bronchitis and I am hoping that this will pass without me having to deal with that. I took some really good cough medicine this morning just after the kids and the husband went out the door and I slept until almost noon! That hasn't happened in quite a while.
So, I had the afternoon to rewatch the premiere of Lost from the other night. I was left with several questions. For those of you who watch the GREATEST show EVER, feel free to add your thoughts. For the rest of you, please just humor me while I rant here...
OK, so I knew the island was moving through time (or I figured as much) but this episode left me wondering if the island was moving, or the people on the island were moving, or both. And was everybody moving? Because Richard Alpert was NOT with Locke after the first bright flash of light, even though Juliet and Sawyer seemed to "move" together at that instance.
The time travel explains a lot to me. I think that the time travel explains the "voices" in the jungle that we have heard for the past four seasons. People moving through time around the Losties making noise. I think it explains the visions that the people on the island keep seeing. For instance, the times when Jack saw his dad, and Hurley saw the dude from the hospital, and even when Kate saw the horse. I believe these were all people traveling through time. I also believe that all the visions Hurley has been having (visits from Charlie, Eko, and Ana Lucia, among others) can be explained by them traveling from a time before they died to the future to bring Hurley important information. Maybe Hurley can see Libby again after all!
Also, what's so special about Desmond? How come Daniel felt it was ok to alter Desmond's memories, but he told Sawyer that he couldn't speak to Desmond or he might change the future. I definitely think Mrs. Hawking will turn out to be Daniel's mother but I still am trying to understand the connection between these "off-the-island" friends and Ben. Were these people once islanders?
Did you notice the guy at the beginning that interrupted Dr. Marvin Candle's station orientation video called him Dr. Chang, or something similar to that? Not Dr. Candle. We know he has other aliases but I don't think we've heard that one yet.
What is Sun up to? It feels like no good to me.

And how about this HOT picture of Sawyer my friend Wanda shared with me! Whew!To trust Ben, or not to trust Ben. He is such a sneaky devil... and he is so knowledgeable about the island... but he is so BAD!!! I tend to go with Hurley and his instincts about the mysterious Benjamin Linus, although Ana Lucia specifically told Hurley NOT to get arrested, and he did anyway. Who is manipulating who? Who do you trust? Ooooh, it is just so good!!!
OK, I feel a little better having gotten those questions/thoughts off my chest. I can't wait for next Wednesday! Please, please, please post comments if you are a Lost addict like me... I need feedback! And if you are not a reader of longlivelocke.blogspot.com then you NEED to become one. Erika Olsen writes super comprehensive summaries of each episode.
Alrighty.... until I have more to add...

The "Certainty" of Snow, the Inauguration, & I love Reading...
I am watching the weather right now. Earlier, at 6 o'clock, the meteorologist on WCNC said that "it's not a chance of IF it will snow, but how much." You know what, I remember this SAME thing happening last year. They said 100% chance... no doubt about it... and I got my hopes up and it did not so much as flurry! I will be very happy if it snows, but I am going to err on the side of doubt this time so that I won't be heart broken. It snowed for about 45 minutes Sunday morning and Lily went upstairs and dressed in jeans and her snowman sweater and ran down asking to go outside and stick out her tongue. I did not even fuss about her not wearing a coat because I figured this might be the only time during her childhood that she will have to stand in the snow with her tongue stuck out... until she (or we) moves to some place other than here, the no-snow capital of NC!! There was really no time for putting on a coat, you know? And I swear, I will be so mad if it snows a foot at the freakin' Outer Banks and not here! That's just not right!
If I am home from school tomorrow, my children are going to be forced to sit and watch the Inauguration of PRESIDENT OBAMA!!! They can play in the snow (?) before or after, but they are going to watch during. It's SUCH a huge historical event and I want them to remember it, even if they just remember being forced to watch it. Did anyone else see Letterman's final Great Moments in Presidential Speeches on Friday night? It was so awesome! Bush blunders make me laugh harder than anything.
Is anyone out there familiar with Ted Dekker? He is a christian author and I just finished a book of his called "Black". It is the first in the Circle Trilogy. I had heard his books were good and I bought this one to see what the fuss was about. It was pretty good. It was full of biblical metaphors and symbolism. It was kind of neat to analyze and think about. I went online and his readers seem almost cult-like. Plus, some of the stuff he has written on his blog sound a little arrogant and saleman-ish. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions about him or his stuff.
I have also been reading "Dream's from my Father" (PRES. Obama) and "Possible Side Effects", a memoir by Augusten Burrroughs. They are good "between books" books. I get kind of bored with non-fiction and I have to read it in short bursts. I am getting ready to start "The Time Traveler's Wife". My friend Shelby and I were talking about starting a book club so that we could have quality adult discussions about what we're reading, so we'll see what happens with that. I wouldn't have any idea what books to start with. If you have any interest in joining us, just let me know. We could maybe even get a WIKI started or a group blog or something where we could discuss books... I don't know, just thinking outloud.
Anyway, I just LOVE reading. A good book is like a drug to me. I fell away from it for a while (when I was in college/grad school and had NO time for pleasure reading), but I am SO glad to have fallen back in love with it! I could read 24/7. I told Carmen this weekend, I could totally see myself being one of those morbidly obese people who never, ever move. And then Richard Simmons comes in to try to get them to raise their arms and stuff. Yep, get me a good book and I am THAT person... as long as I can turn pages I will be happy! :)
LOST returns on Wednesday night! DO NOT CALL ME WEDNESDAY NIGHT!!! I WILL NOT ANSWER MY PHONE! NOT EVEN DURING COMMERICALS!

Ahhh, Edward...
I seriously think that Christmas break did more harm than good when it comes to my job woes. I have had so much trouble getting up in the morning and getting myself ready for work. I just DREAD every minute of the day... I LIVE for Fridays. Wednesday I had to stay home with Sam because he was sick with a stomach virus (which I think I am getting now) and I thought all day about what a good housewife/stay at home mom I would make. I cleaned the house from top to bottom and I washed all the clothes. I washed all the sheets and changed the beds since Sam threw up in two out of three of them Tuesday night. I hate that my little boy was sick, but part of me felt like I was playing hookey since I was at least getting out of being at work. How sad is that???
Carmen and I went to see Twilight last night. It was my second time seeing it and her first. It's funny...
a movie has not made me feel downright giddy over a guy since I watched The Lost Boys fourteen thousand times in a row just because Corey Haim was in it. I guess it is because I enjoyed the books so much and then Rob Pattinson was cast so perfectly for the role and Stephanie Meyer made Edward Cullen so perfect-in-every-way. I keep joking with Carmen and saying I am on an Edward high but it is so true. Pitiful, but thinking of that boy's smile and his beautiful eyes actually helped me sleep last night. Kind of pushed thoughts of Taco and Burger and the coyotes clean to the back of my mind. But I guess that's a good thing. So... incase you haven't read the books, let me just say that the Twilight series is not just a book for teenagers, and it is one of the quickest, easiest reads I have experienced in a long time. Just a great, great book. Beautiful story. I actually think that seeing the movie made the books seem better because I have more accurate faces to put with each character now. The movie is PERFECTLY cast all the way around. Oh, by the way Carmen... he's 22...perfectly legal. :-)

What a bunch of little twerps...
I went to the movies last night with Brad and the kids to see the movie Bedtime Stories (which was NOT good, by the way). I have had a few experiences like the one I am about to describe, but none quite as bad as this particular one...
So we are sitting there (and have been sitting there for nearly an hour) waiting for our movie to start. Finally the movie begins and we are all set to enjoy and have a few laughs at Adam Sandler, when in comes a group of about ten teenagers. All of them had their cell phones and they sat right in front of us, of course. You know how annoying that little light is on cell phones when you are trying to watch a movie? Well, try ten of them across the entire row in front of you! Not only were the lights distracting, but these kids weren't just texting... they were calling each other and talking! There were a few times when they even stood up to talk to each other, right in front of us! I finally had had enough and I went to find someone who worked there to come in and speak to them. They knew where I was going, of course, and then when I came back they had the nerve to try to talk junk to me! Calling me a snitch (among other things) and turning around and staring at me. I finally leaned up and asked one who was staring at me if I could help her with something and she just laughed. Finally, another lady who was also sitting behind them on down the row from me went to tell the management. This time the little guy who worked there actually came up to the row where they were sitting and stood there (he had only stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked up at them when I went to tell). Well, they continued and then they had had enough of everybody watching them and they stood up and announced that they were going to the mall because this movie was full of snitches. And with much pomp and circumstance, they, thank the Lord, exited the theatre! Hooray!
My gripe is this.... WHY would you pay$8 to come into a movie theatre to sit and talk on the freakin' telephone!?!? And why would you come into a kids' movie, of all movies? They had absolutely no interest in the movie AT ALL. Kids are so spoiled today. I see it in my job every day! It is so frustrating to see kids who have no understanding of respect for others. My husband and I work very hard for our money and it cost my little family of four almost $50 dollars to go to the movies and have a bag of popcorn and a drink for us to share. These little TWERPS didn't hesitate to come in and ruin that $50 excursion for us! After they left, I calmed down and actually did get to watch the movie (minus the first 30 minutes), but still. I paid to watch the entire thing and these disrespectful little turds, yes... turds, took part of that from me. And it pisses me off.
OK, I fell a little bit better now.

What? Huh? Oops...
Something about Christmas break makes me totally lose track of my days and lose all sense of time. The very first weekday that we were out of school (Monday the 22nd) I sat here in my recliner enjoying the kids and enjoying not being at work. The phone rang about 3 o'clock and it was the dentist office wondering where Sam was. I totally forgot! Then that same night Brad and I went to Katie and Greg's for their Christmas party and Collin's mom sent me a text asking me why I wasn't at basketball practice. Again, I totally forgot! And just now, I turned the page in my calendar and realized that last night Sam was supposed to have gone to a birthday party sleepover last night. And guess what... I totally forgot! I don't know what is wrong with me.
I guess part of my problem is that my mind is so preoccupied with my dogs. I am not sleeping very good and I am still really scared.
I did remember to go scrapbooking with my friend Kathy last night. I got a lot done but I am still not caught up. I started not to go because I just didn't feel in the mood for it but I am glad that I did because it didn't take me very long to get myself on a roll. I got home around 2am to find Sam in my bed with Brad. Needless to say, it was a restless night.
Today is Sam's first basketball game. I have to work the stinkin' concession stand before the game. I hope they have a good season. They didn't win many games last year but they did have a good time and they learned a lot.
The countdown is on to my return to school. We have to go back on Monday and I am dreading it, of course. With the exception of the dog thing, I have had a really nice, restful break.
