I just realized that I have less than two weeks before I have to go back to work. Why is it that the summer goes by a little faster every year? I have been trying to be positive and get myself geared up for a good year, but it is so hard. Becky is my bestest buddy at school and the powers that be have moved her to 6th grade. It just won't be the same. Plus, my good friend Shelby got transferred to Kings Mtn. so she won't be there either. And she is my partner in Outer Banks crime! Kathy, my teammie and crazy yankee friend (and I say that with all the love in the world), is preggers and she will be leaving to have a baby sometime in February. Looks like Christy and I will have to hold down the fort!!! Just a lot of changes coming and I am not sure what to think. Hopefully, I will have great kids and the year will just be mah-velous. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Been a lot going on the past few days. I went with Becky, Kylie, & Katie to the Nickelback concert last Friday night. It was a great concert (love me some Nickelback...good old down and dirty rock'n'roll) but I must admit I felt a little old. I don't really know why because I AM NOT OLD!
So then Saturday, Brad got his mom to keep the kids and we went to the Outback (our favorite) and then to the movies to see Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince. Y'all know how I like Harry Potter... again, weird, I know. So, I was a little disappointed in the movie. It was a bit boring but really none of it could really be skipped because it is all setting up the scene for the last book (which, by the way, is being made into TWO movies). Still, it was nice to go out without the kiddos and not have to listen to them fighting between choruses of "mommy, mommy, mommy". Gotta love 'em.
Sunday we went to the Lazy 5 Ranch with the church to kick off VBS. It was a neat little place, if you've never been. You take a safari-style wagon ride through their animal habitat and you get to feed ostrich, emu, water buffalo, giraffe, pot-bellied pigs and lots of other kinds of animals. Kind of neat to be that close to them. The ostrich are pretty aggressive and were actually kind of scary until we got used to them. The kids had fun though.
Monday morning we had to drag out of bed earlier than we have been because it was the first day of VBS. I must say, I feel a little guilty sometimes because I don't volunteer to teach in Bibla School but I justify it by saying that I teach ALL YEAR LONG and I really just don't want to in the summer. When my kids are older I may feel inclined to do it, but until then it is the only real time that I have to myself in the summer. It has been wonderful to get up and take them and then get things done around the house or get the grocery shopping done (in half the time it takes when they go with me!) or run errands without hearing them complain. It really makes the rest of the day so much smoother.
So, I am gonna end this now because I had my eyes dilated this morning and the post-dilation headache is in full throttle. Plus, my fish filter stopped working on my aquarium and it looks like I am going to have to hit WalMart twice in one day here shortly. Ugh! So, until the urge to write some stuff down strikes me again...
