It has been so long since I had time to write on my blog that I feel annoyed with myself. I actually have time to get on Facebook and tend my virtual farm, but not to get on my blog and express my thoughts. I guess whatever is mindless is also easiest. Enough about that...
I have several things I would like to write about today, the first of which is how freakin' excited I am about school getting out! I feel like the last day is NEVER gonna get here, but I know that it will. The last days of school are agony. First of all there's testing, and my biggest complaint about that is that I have to STAND for hours on end. Those of you who know me know that I have some MESSED UP feet! It absolutely puts me out of commission for days after all that standing, just ask my husband. I am useless after a day of testing. I just need to sit down and put my feet up. Besides testing, there's the fact that the kids feel like they don't have to do anything after the test is over. Therefore anything you plan that is in the least bit educational, they refuse to do. Besides you never know how many kids you will have at any given time because the schedule is always so hectic at any given moment because of retesting and remediation. There may be a movie showing, but probably not since that is not seen as good use of instructional time by the powers that be (ie. the ones who DON'T have to sit in the classroom with the kids who refuse to do any work). They are also not allowed to use their cell phones or their iPods, the only other two things that keep them quiet and settled. I really don't mind this time too much, because I get to talk to my kids, which is something I don't get much time for throughout the school year because of how much material I have to cover before testing. However, I have tons of paperwork that has to be completed before I can go home for the summer and I have to find time before the workdays or I won't be able to get it all done. Enough about school...
My kids are also ready for school to be out. Lily graduated from preschool about two weeks ago and she finished up dance as well. She is still playing weeball, but only for a couple more weeks. Sam is still playing baseball and his team is really good. He made the all-star team so his baseball will continue on into the summer. I have scheduled for him to go to a church camp for a couple of weeks this summer and he is excited about that. I'm not sure how I will do with him being gone for a whole week but I feel like it is time to give that a try. I am trying to decide what to do for a vacation this summer. I have tried enough things that I have come to realize that my children only see vacation as time with a pool, even though Brad's mom has one less than a mile away. We really can't plan to do educational things because all we hear is "I'm bored". They just aren't old enough for things that Brad and I find interesting. My 10th anniversary is this weekend (as is Sam's 8th birthday) and I had hoped to have a special trip planned for me and Brad. It just didn't happen. We are going to the No Doubt/Paramore concert Saturday night with Carmen and Billy, and then Sam's birthday is Sunday so that's gonna be all we do this weekend. Next weekend Brad is having Sam's cub pack come over to camp out at our pond so I don't think we are going to get away then. Hopefully I am going to be able to find some time to have a friend over or something to celebrate Sam's birthday. And who knows what I am going to get him as a birthday gift? He has said that he wants a flat screen tv, and a horse. He's not getting either. Guess I'll have to come up with something on my own.
Well, I should probably be doing something else right now. Maybe I will be able to get myself on a more regular blogging schedule this summer. Cross your fingers for me.
